For, briefly, at the end of June, our Council of Ministers approved a Royal Decree-Law with a few measures that sought to cover the economic consequences derived from the war in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Among them was the Suppression of the value-added tax of some basic foods. For example, eggs, bread, fruit and vegetables and yes, also olive oil.
If you are wondering what VAT has olive oil now, you will like the answer: 0%. Before this measure, we already enjoyed a VAT reduced to 5%, while the figure before these discounts was 10%.
When does the elimination of VAT from olive oil take effect?
Surely you want to know when we are going to finally contemplate that drop in the price of olive oil in supermarkets and shops… Right!
in fact, The elimination of VAT from olive oil came into force on July 1. If you still had EVOO at home, you may not have found out. And if it’s time for you to replenish… Well, a joy for your pocket!
Until what day will the VAT of the suppressed olive oil be kept?
And now comes the bad news: we can only enjoy the suppressed VAT Until next September 30. Then, between October and December, the VAT of extra virgin olive oil will become 2%.
This is so because food inflation is expected to decrease during the last quarter of the year. Therefore, in theory, we should not notice this rise.
In addition, fortunately, the Royal Decree-Law includes the modification of the VAT Law, a measure with which the EVOO becomes part of the commodity basket.
This means that this product will have a super-reduced type forever. When the extraordinary reductions of the tax are finished, the VAT of olive oil will officially become 4%.
